Planting & Care
1. Planting: Plant your tree in a hole about 3 times the size of the pot it comes in. Mix the soil with 50% compost. Be sure to plant in a place with full sun. Make sure your Weeping Persimmon s topmost roots sit at the soil line. Add 4-6 inches of mulch around the base of the trunk, leaving a couple of inches of empty space between the trunk and the edge of the mulch.
2. Watering: Chocolate Persimmons need a good amount of water in their first year. If you have clay soil, you only need to water your tree once a week. Light soils will need watering twice a week. In either case, you need to deeply water the roots for about 40 minutes. Your tree should receive around 1 inch of water each week. If you are having an especially dry season, you ll need to water more frequently.
3. Fertilizing: Fertilize your tree each year with a 10-10-10 fertilizer. You will need 1 cup for each year of the tree s life. For example, a 2-year-old tree will need 2 cups total for the entire year.
